Gang Scope was born from the Corpus Christi Police Department’s desire to develop a system to track gang members. Det. Ben Teed from the CCPD was tasked with the job of overseeing the project and worked closely to help sculpt Gang Scope to CCPD's requirements.
The major tasks included...
- provide a way to capture and review intelligence
- provide quick and advanced search functionality
- import scanned paper copies of past intelligence
- ensure 28 CFR was upheld
- provide an easy-to-use system
Gang Scope's requirements were drafted in the Spring of 2008 with development beginning in the Summer of 2008. Anxious to start using the system, a stable beta version of Gang Scope was delivered to CCPD to start using just before Thanksgiving of 2008. An initial import of known gang members saved CCPD countless hours of manual input. Development and refinement of Gang Scope continued while CCPD was given the luxuries a web-based database.
